Young Money Ent., the new Def Jam?

This is me and Nicki Minaj at one of her shows in Springfield, Ma

So, from what it looks like all my readers love love love Nicki Minaj and Young Money. With over 50,000 hits just on the post I wrote about on Nicki Minaj, I think it’s time for me to write another article on them. Before I do, though, I want to write a disclaimer: I would just like to add that I personally met Nicki and love the fact that I tried to push her music before she was even famous. Back to the article though. So, is Young Money Entertainment the new Def Jam? Or does YME have the potential to become the new Def Jam? I think so. What Lil Wayne is doing within the industry to promote not only himself, but his artists is incredible. It seems that everywhere you look one of his artists or himself is doing a cameo on a song. I mean take Nicki Minaj, last year she was just a speck on the hip-hop radar, and now with the help of Young Money she has become the premier female MC (you may not agree with this, but with the musical downfall of Lil Kim and many of the great female MC’s in Jail, sorry Lumidee and Remy, she is really the only one right now).

Also, have you heard the new Young Money album. Um, hello RIDICULOUS. Lil Wayne CONTINUES to demonstrate is entrepreneurial skills and with this cd continues to amaze me. If you have heard Steady Mobbin‘ you know what I am talking about. I mean Weezy even made Gucci Mane sound good (sorry all GM fans, he just doesn’t do it for me). I mean if you look at it like this Weezy is really the only one out there who is continuing to step his game up and push himself to the limit. How many artists you know are putting out CD’s of their artists consistantly or even of themselves now adays? Just turn on the radio you will understand what I am talking about.

Does Young Money have the potential to surpass Def Jam as THE premier hip-hop label? I think so. Damn, Birdman really is a lucky man. One artist has made him set for life, genius! So, I would like to hear everyone’s opinions on this, but for now go to your local record store and buy the We Are Young Money cd…you be the judge.

Listen to Jay-Z’s “Blueprint 3” before it comes out!

As most of you know who are avid hip-hop followers, Jay-Z’s eleventh studio album “Blueprint 3” will drop in stores September 3. However, Recessinreallife.com has an exclusive look at most of the tracks that will be on the album, courtesy of Datpiff.com. I came across this mixtape today and had to share it with the rest of you. Of course all of the Jigga man’s songs are exactly what we would expect from him: the perfect mix of his master lyricism and that brooklyn hood swag we all know and love. Jigga never ceases to amaze me and I know this album is gonna be fire, something that he knows we wouldn’t expect any less of on one of his albums. Jigga’s sound demonstrates his maturity and veteran status within the rap game, yet still brings something fresh to the game with his collabo’s with such up and coming stars as Drake, Kid Cudi and veterans like Jeezy and Alicia Keys. One of my favorites is Jay’s hard collabo with Swizzy in “On To the Next One.” Be sure to listen to this, you won’t be disappointed. There is also some ill songs on there that aren’t Jigga’s, like Lloyd’s “Pusha” ft. Juelz Santana (eh hem when’s YOUR album finally gonna drop) and “World Tour” by Wale ft. Jazmine Sullivan (prod. by Cool and Dre). In order to access the mixtape just click the “download mixtape” link below and it will go straight to the mixtape page (don’t worry it’s safe). Hope you like it and leave comments to let me know what you think. Peace for now.

Old Movie Review: Lucky Number Slevin

Although I should have been studying or doing some work before exam week starts I decided to watch a movie yesterday and just relax. My friend Patrick brought over a movie that I remember I had heard about in the past, but I had never actually seen. Lucky Number Slevin (2006), starring an incredible cast including Josh Hartnett, Sir Ben Kingsley, Lucy Liu, Morgan Freeman and Bruce Willis is a two-hour action packed masterpiece. I was so surprised that I had never seen a movie of this caliber. I was on the edge of my seat for the entire movie because with every minute in the movie a new twist and turn would come about. The movie is a little bit difficult to understand if you do not pay close attention to every scene, so make sure if you watch this that you don’t have people who are constantly talking or distracting you.

The movie follows Slevin (Josh Hartnett), a loner who has recently hit a bit of an unlucky strike in his life. So, he decides to visit his good friend in New York for a couple weeks to get away. Once he gets to New York his problems start. After finding out his friend is nowhere to be found and a mugging incident, a case of mistaken identity lands Slevin into the middle of a war being plotted by two of the city’s most rival crime bosses: The Rabbi (Kingsley) and The Boss (Freeman). Slevin is under constant surveillance by relentless Detective Brikowski as well as the infamous assassin Goodkat and finds himself having to hatch his own ingenious plot to get them before they get him. From this point on Hartnett gets involved with his missing friend’s quirky, yet seductive, neighbor (Lucy Liu) and is assigned to killing the son of The Rabbi as a result of an ongoing feud. All the while he tries to figure out where is friend his, how he is going to get out of this mess, how will he kill the Rabbi’s son and in the end a major twist unfolds which puts everything together for the audience.

I would definitely check out this movie if you have some free time. Yes, it may seem confusing, but I can guarantee you will be on the edge of your seat the entire time. Let me know what you think. Rent the movie at Blockbuster today!

New Song: “We Made You” Eminem

“We Made You” is the first single released of Eminem’s sixth studio album, Relapse. The song features vocalist Charmagne Tripp, who is impersonating Jessica Simpson. With this track Eminem reverts back to his old style of catchy beats and funny, socially relevant lyrics. Of course, it wouldn’t be Eminem if he didn’t make fun of at least five people in his song. Ripping on Bret Michaels, Amy Winehouse and Jessica Simpson among others, Eminem’s lyrics are ridiculous and offensive.

I personally think the video is a little bit too much, but maybe it is just me. All the same, I enjoy this song and thought Charmagne Tripp’s chorus was very well done. Let us know if you know any more about her.

So sorry for the lack of new posts in the last two days, but we hope you will enjoy our movie and keep coming back to our blog. Thanks!
