Young Money Ent., the new Def Jam?

This is me and Nicki Minaj at one of her shows in Springfield, Ma

So, from what it looks like all my readers love love love Nicki Minaj and Young Money. With over 50,000 hits just on the post I wrote about on Nicki Minaj, I think it’s time for me to write another article on them. Before I do, though, I want to write a disclaimer: I would just like to add that I personally met Nicki and love the fact that I tried to push her music before she was even famous. Back to the article though. So, is Young Money Entertainment the new Def Jam? Or does YME have the potential to become the new Def Jam? I think so. What Lil Wayne is doing within the industry to promote not only himself, but his artists is incredible. It seems that everywhere you look one of his artists or himself is doing a cameo on a song. I mean take Nicki Minaj, last year she was just a speck on the hip-hop radar, and now with the help of Young Money she has become the premier female MC (you may not agree with this, but with the musical downfall of Lil Kim and many of the great female MC’s in Jail, sorry Lumidee and Remy, she is really the only one right now).

Also, have you heard the new Young Money album. Um, hello RIDICULOUS. Lil Wayne CONTINUES to demonstrate is entrepreneurial skills and with this cd continues to amaze me. If you have heard Steady Mobbin‘ you know what I am talking about. I mean Weezy even made Gucci Mane sound good (sorry all GM fans, he just doesn’t do it for me). I mean if you look at it like this Weezy is really the only one out there who is continuing to step his game up and push himself to the limit. How many artists you know are putting out CD’s of their artists consistantly or even of themselves now adays? Just turn on the radio you will understand what I am talking about.

Does Young Money have the potential to surpass Def Jam as THE premier hip-hop label? I think so. Damn, Birdman really is a lucky man. One artist has made him set for life, genius! So, I would like to hear everyone’s opinions on this, but for now go to your local record store and buy the We Are Young Money cd…you be the judge.
